At Northwood Dental, we are pleased to offer you the convenience of CEREC single-appointment dentistry in Eagan, MN. CEREC technology allows us to deliver long-lasting, beautiful dental restorations like crowns, bridges, inlays, onlays, and veneers during a single appointment. These same procedures at most other offices would require placement of temporary restorations and a follow-up second visit.
Dr.Taple is a skilled and experienced dentist who has been in practice since 1989 and understands that your time is valuable. Dr Taple and Northwood Dental have this state-of-the-art dental technology, providing the highest standard of dental care.
CEREC – same day restorations
CEREC stands for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics.
Using CAD-(computer aided design) / CAM-(computer aided milling) technology, Dr. Taple creates same-day dental restorations during a single appointment, without sending mouth molds or impressions and models to an outside dental lab for fabrication. You don’t have to wait weeks to get your new dental restoration.
During the procedure, Dr. Taple designs your CEREC dental crown entirely using CAD/CAM scanning software to render a 3-D virtual model of your tooth or teeth to be restored. The specifications are sent to our milling machine in our dental office that works like a reverse 3-D printer. If you would like to see the process work just ask. You can watch as the technology produces your new restoration from a ceramic block. It’s quite a fascinating process!
Another benefit is that planning your dental restorations with this level of accuracy results in a comfortable, precise fit, with a realistic appearance.
Restorative Dentistry: Explained
You’ll hear this term used a lot in dentistry, and it refers to any dental prosthetic that restores the form, function, and aesthetics of your natural tooth.
Dental restorations we can create with CEREC technology are:
- Dental Crowns—Used on a broken or damaged tooth to restore chewing function.
- Dental Bridges—Used to replace one or more missing teeth from the same area of your mouth.
- Inlays and Onlays—Used when you have too much tooth damage for a filling, but not enough to warrant a dental crown.
- Veneers—Used to conceal smile flaws like chipped or broken teeth, mild tooth misalignments, and severe staining or discoloration.
Benefits of Choosing CEREC at Northwood Dental
CEREC same-visit technology is a significant breakthrough in modern dentistry. In the past dentists sent all their restorations to an outside dental lab to be fabricated, a process that takes weeks to complete. Patients would be sent home with a temporary and return for a second appointment when their permanent dental crown or bridge was ready.
The whole CEREC process takes only a couple of hours from start to finish. You will receive your permanent dental crown in one visit, and you won’t have to worry about coming back for another appointment weeks away.
Aside from their same-visit convenience, CEREC dental crowns and restorations in Eagan, MN look and feel like your natural teeth. Some dental crowns show a dark metal line around the gums, but since we fabricate CEREC restorations from metal-free porcelain, they blend seamlessly with your smile.

Depending on the type of treatment you have received for your dental problem, it might be necessary to:
- Have your tooth restored to its original size and shape
- Supply additional physical support for the treated tooth
- Get a complete “makeover” on the affected tooth
For all of these cases, a crown is the most logical option. While inlays and Onlays will help partially cover the tooth’s chewing surface and fillings take care of the empty interior of the tooth- crowns (or caps) completely cover every visible part of the tooth needing restoration. While some structure of your tooth remains, it is essentially “rebuilt” to look natural and at its best.
